The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is thrilled to partner with Michigan Humanities to present an Evening with Angeline Boulley- author of the 2023-24 Great Michigan Read Selection “Firekeeper’s Daughter.”
Space is limited, registration is required. This event is free and open to the public.
An instant bestseller, “Firekeeper’s Daughter” focuses on the fictional main character, Daunis, but brings to light so many themes and topics that Native American groups face in Michigan and throughout the country today.
As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in—both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. When her family is struck by tragedy, Daunis puts her dreams on hold to care for her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother’s hockey team.
Books will be available for sale.
The 2023–24 Great Michigan Read is presented by Michigan Humanities and supported by national, statewide, and local partners, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Meijer Foundation, Library of Michigan, Image Creative Group, and BiblioBoard.Laborers’ International Union of North America, MSU Federal Credit Union, and Library of Michigan.
